Pop Of Petals

This is the last of the cards that everyone made this week at Make-It-Monday.  It was fun to watch as people decided which side of the designer series paper to use.

This Garden Impressions paper is so cool as one side has a flower pattern on it and the backside has just muted color designs.  I have a feeling I will end up using more of the muted designs than the actual flower images.

HOT HOT HOT . . . I think those three words describe the temperatures today. My plan is to go to Iowa City early and go grocery shopping and then to drop some stuff off at the recycling center.  After that I am going to finish up my swaps for a demo meeting I am going to tomorrow and finally finish up watching the Cubs game.  Yesterday's game was sure more fun to watch than the last several.  Today I will keep busy looking for my brother's and sister-in-law that are attending the game.

Dandelion Wishes

One of the blogs I look at  occasionally is Stampin' Pretty.  She had a card like this with slightly different designer series paper and colors.  Of course being a black and gold lover I had to make it.

This is another one of the cards everyone made last Monday night.  Even if I weren't a Hawkeye fan there is just something about this color combination that I love.

Yesterday's lunch only lasted until mid-afternoon so I was home in time to take a little nap so I could once again stay up to watch the Cubs.  Since they are playing on the west coast the games have been exceptionally late.  I am not sure they have been worth the lack of sleep lately, but I seem to stay up anyway.  It is a good thing the game today is an afternoon game!!

Animal Outing

Once again Pinterest was a source of inspiration when I was looking for layouts for this set.  This was another one of the cards everyone made on Monday night.  I love the way this card turned out although it did take three different stamp sets.

Some stampers used some of the other sentiments in the set to make a baby card by saying "Welcome, Little One"

Luetta and I had a great time on our shopping trip to the Des Moines area.  I was true to my word and did not buy any stamps at the stamp store.  In fact, neither one of us bought much of anything there.  We did make the rounds of the thrift stores in the area and I was able to pick up fourteen more lanterns for wedding decorations.  At a minimum now I think we have enough!! It amazed both of us that although it rained off and on wherever we were, we managed to avoid the raindrops.  I thought it was quite nice of it to only rain when we were in a store and not when we were trying to get back and forth to the car.

Today I am meeting some friends for our lunch that starts at lunchtime and often goes until supper time!!!

Accented Blooms

I was extremely disappointed when Stampin' Up! retired two of my favorite purple colors . . . Elegant Eggplant and Perfect Plum.  I was disappointed until I started using Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape.  These colors are awesome, so there is no more disappoint here!!

Yesterday was another busy busy day.  I got some cardstock cut before the Cubs game and finished it up in the afternoon after the game.  All that remains is to load it into the car.

Today I am going to finish cleaning up after the garage sale and head to Iowa City early afternoon to run some errands.  During stamp night I am meeting up with the district art teacher that took John's place when he could no longer teach.  She is going to look at the leftover paper from the sale and take what she thinks the art program can use.  I am happy to donate back to the school district that provided for us for so many years.

Detailed With Love

There are so many cool new products in the Idea Book and Catalog . . . this designer series paper is just one of them.  It makes a very intricate looking card with little to no work on your part.

Phew . . . what a busy couple of days!!!  The sale was a huge success and I think everyone went home with some new goodies!!  Now I just need to figure out what to do with the stuff I have left because it is not going back into my craft room!!!

Today I need to get all of the paper cut and supplies gathered for tomorrow night's stamp night.  Hopefully I can get it all cut before the Cubs game at noon so I can stuff envelopes during the game!!

Healing Hugs

Do you remember the Heartfelt Blooms stamp set that was in the Sale-a-Bration catalog that showcased the new type of stamp technology, DistINKtive?  The stamps made with this distinktive process lay down the ink at different opacities giving the finished image more depth. There’s nothing tricky about how to apply the ink: just ink the surface lightly for a perfect photographic finish. 

Healing Hugs is one of the stamp sets in the new Idea Book and Catalog that uses this technology.  The flowers and the leaves come out perfectly every time with little to no effort on your part!!!

High Tide

There has been no stamping time for me lately with new stamp sets as I have been working on getting garage sale stuff ready and my stamp room organized now that there is room to move around in there.  So. . . here is a card from a while back that I never posted.  

The High Tide stamp set does make awesome sympathy cards. . . which unfortunately we all seem to need.

Today I need to figure out what I am going to take to our Paper Pals shoebox swap tonight.  I have a couple of ideas running around in my head, I just need to catch them and them down!!

Our plans changed about a zillion times yesterday, while Hanna was on her way home.  Originally she was going to come home and rest until we went out for supper as she is still trying to catch up on her sleep after being in India. However, she called when she was halfway here and wanted to know if I wanted to meet her in Iowa City and we could get some of the wedding shopping done then.  It was way more successful than either of us imagined as we got almost everything that was on the list.  We came home and picked up John and then headed back to Iowa City to meet Julie and Jason for supper.  A pretty typical day for us.

We were up early this morning and at the local cafe by 6:30 because she had been craving their breakfast special.  She is long gone for her speaking engagement at the University and I am back to getting things ready for the garage sale.   Since the Cubs got rained out last night they are playing a double header today so I know where my time will be spent this afternoon and this evening.

Waterfront

This catalog year I going to try to make a concerted effort to not only focus on the new stamp sets and ones that are in the special catalogs, but also to do justice to all of the other cool stamps sets that are in the Idea Book and Catalog.  This is one of those sets . . . Waterfront.

This would be an awesome set to add to your collection for all of those manly cards we seem to need sometimes.  I also think it would be awesome for sympathy cards.

We had a great day on our road trip to the Quad Cities.  We stopped at a couple of antique stores and John found two decoys and two ornate frames for paintings.  We ate a little local diner that was called Two Sisters. Evidently those two sisters really knew how to cook because the place was packed from the time we got there till we left.

Hanna is on her way home for a day or so.  She has to present at the University Of Iowa on civic engagement in the classroom on Tuesday, so she is coming today.  I think we are planning on getting together with Julie and Jason for supper again tonight.  I will be working on getting garage sale stuff laid out until she gets here!!  At least some of my tables are set up so I can begin to sort items.

We went to the wedding which was outdoors and let me tell you it was HOT HOT HOT!!  We stayed for part of the reception and then came home when they started to serve the dinner.

Today we are going to celebrate Father's Day with Julie and Jason by going antiquing over by the Quad Cities.  Not sure what all we will find but I am sure it will be a great day!!

The purge continued yesterday and also an unexpected road trip to pick up some lanterns for Hanna's wedding.  Lauren's mom had found some on a facebook wedding page, so I contacted the gal and arranged to buy them.  I thought Hanna could pick them up when she got home from her trip, but the lady was a tad impatient so I went to get them last night.  It was about a 3.5 hour road trip there and back, but it was a great afternoon for a drive!!

Today instead of purging I think I am actually going to stamp some cards to put together while watching the Cubs this afternoon.  I am meeting some friends for supper so it should be a pretty full  day!!

Animal Outing

Check out another awesome new stamp set it the catalog . . . Animal Outing. Besides making cool baby cards, it also has some awesome sentiments for thank you and friendship cards.

I thought it looked great paired with the bubbles from the Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper.

So of course I had to make a girly version of the same card.  The Fresh Fig is a little dark, but I still think it works well together.

Yesterday's venture to the flea market turned up an awesome find.  I wasn't really looking for anything but sometime something reaches out and grabs you around the ankle.  Yesterday was such a day.  I was able to go from this . . . . 

to this!!!  I believe I have mentioned that I am really purging my stamp room. The plastic drawers were full of designer series paper and I have paired it down to just what will fit in the awesome little wooden set of drawers. Everything else is in the pile to be sold.  I will have awesome deals on designer series paper!!!  And I know have an super useful place to store my Big Shot so I don't have to be picking it up off of the floor all of the time!!!

Today I am going to finish going through paper that I have stashed elsewhere. I have an afternoon appointment for some lab work before Make-It-Monday tonight.  The car is loaded and ready to go!!!

Abstract Impressions

Whenever I see something in shades of purple it reminds me of Hanna and my niece when they were little girls.  They both loved the color purple.  My mom and I took the girls to the Mall of America one summer and the girls were in seventh heaven because there was a store there called Primarily Purple.  This card would have been right up their alley!!

We always do two techniques at Technique/Stamp Club.  The second technique we worked with last night was dragging and swiping.  

I think my dragging and swiping skills need a little practice, but overall I am pleased with how the card turned out.

It's the first Thursday of the month so it must be Technique/Stamp Club night. Tonight we are learning the double embossing technique.

Now that I have tried this technique I see all kinds of cards with flowers and the two different colors of embossing powder.  Maybe even a little crazy . . . and use three different colors.

Stamps:  Painted Glass, Handwritten

Cardstock: Basic Black, Whisper White

Ink: Grapefruit Grove

Accessories:  Versamark, Grapefruit Grove Embossing Powder, 

Heat Tool, 1/8" Grapefruit Grove Gros Grain Ribbon

Wow. . . . what a Cubs game last night . . . wore me out just watching it!!  So today will be a day of rest before appointments this afternoon and Technique/Stamp Club tonight.  I am actually ahead of the game as I have all of the cards figured out and samples made for Monday's Make-It-Monday!!!
